awana

AWANA started September 23, this year and has implemented several changes. Previously AWANA met on Monday nights at 6:30 - 8:30 pm, but has now switched to Wednesday nights at 6:15 - 8:15pm. This year the program incorporated part of the evening Wednesday night service into the AWANA council time.  We have had a very smooth transition and there has been a lot of positive feedback from church members who appreciate having Wednesday night prayer meeting and the AWANA program on one night. It makes for a less hectic week and more family time. The new schedule also makes the AWANA program more visible to congregation members who would like to know more about it and perhaps become involved.

AWANA is a ministry to the children of the congregation as well as an outreach to kids in the surrounding neighborhood. AWANA is for kindergarteners through junior high school age children. It focuses first on making sure that children hear the gospel and, secondly, it encourages Bible memorization. Memorization is done much easier as a child and the verses will stick with them throughout their whole lives.  The children are awarded with AWANA dollars for memorizing scriptures. They can then spend these dollars at the AWANA store which is stocked with a variety of candy and toys, much to the delight of the children.  Sports and game time is also a highlight of the evening.

You can help the AWANA program by keeping it in your prayers throughout the year.  Donations of candy and toys no matter how small are always appreciated for the AWANA store.
