The gospel means "good news". It's good news because it's God's news; His rescue story for the world.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5.8
God prexists all that is. He spoke the universe in to existence, from the smallest microbe to the largest star. His pinnacle creation was man, a reflection of Him; made specifically to have fellowship and relationship with Him.
"..and God saw that it was good."
"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" Ps. 90.2
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" Romans 5.12
Adam and Eve chose to rebel and disobey a command God gave them. This severed their relationship with Him. In fact, this sin broke the relationship so much that it affected all of creation.
All the pain, heartache, and injustice in the world is due to sin and particularly goes back to the sin of rebellion that Adam and Eve first wrought.
- Ned
Though man's relationship with God was severed, God made a plan to fix the breach. Throughout the ages God enacted His plan of redemption which the Bible reveals in exquisite detail.
The Messiah would come to save what was lost.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" 1 Pe 3.18
God became man and paid for mankind's sin by dying on the cross. He was the perfect and sinless sacrifice which displayed His love and mercy for all.
But the grave, it could not hold him. He conquered sin and death through His resurrection, just as God promised.
"VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU, HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME HATH EVERLASTING LIFE."
Faith is simple trust in Jesus Christ to save you. It means instead of believing you can rescue yourself from the consequences of sin, you transfer your trust to the rescue He purchased for you by His death. Those who place their trust in anything other than Jesus will find themselves forever separated from the loving God who gave His one and only Son to set us free from the bondage of sin. This painful separation is called Hell.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph 2.8-9

"Jesus Is Lord! The idea that the Creator of the world could forgive a sinner like me, send the Holy Spirit to live in my heart, and eternally live in His presence is more wonderful than anything I could have imagined."
Nancy
"In April 1972, I heard the gospel message. The Holy Spirit of God impressed upon me that I was a sinner bound for Hell, and convicted me to get saved. I responded by inviting the Lord Jesus Christ to come into my heart, save my soul, and forgive my sins.... and He did! What joy, peace, and love!"
Barry
"God was showing much mercy towards me, allowing me not to perish in my sin, showing me HIs great love by realizing that "God so love the world the He died for me."
Joyce
"I prayed the sinners prayer. I have never regretted the decision I made that day. It changed the course of my life. I thank the Lord for saving me and keeping me."
